THE HISTORY OF NEW FOUNTAIN CHAPEL AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH, JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA
- 1916- The Reverend A.L. Harrison organized what would later become New Fountain Chapel AME on the Historic Eastside of Jacksonville, Florida.
- 1916- The church was later admitted to the district and annual conference of the AME church.
- 1917- Originally named Harrison Mission Chapel, the name was changed to Fountain Chapel Mission Church to honor Bishop William Alfred Fountain, the 45th bishop of the AME Church.
- 1917-The church’s name was changed to Fountain Chapel AME Church.
- 1925- A frame building was purchased for the church.
- 1930’s- A move to change the name to Fountain Chapel Reformed Church was begun but presumably, not recognized.
- 1940’s- Fountain Chapel’s membership grew to 241 members during World War II.
- 1940’s – A lot was purchased on Jessie Street, however, in completing the transaction, they found the name change of Fountain Chapel Reformed Church had been instituted.
- 1961- Under the leadership of Rev. Frank W. Jones, Jr. the Jessie Street site was completed. The membership began occupancy on February 26, 1961.
- 2004- Church renovations were completed under the leadership of Rev. Louis Kirkland.
- 2015- Land acquisition of three lots parallel to the church purchased under the leadership of now pastor Rev. Wendell C. Webster.
- 2017- The church celebrated its Centennial Celebration.
